U2 star Adam Clayton and wife Mariana announce shock split after 10 years of marriage
U2 star Adam Clayton and his wife Mariana Teixeira de Carvalho have ‘amicably divorced’ after more than 10 years of marriage, a spokesperson for the couple has confirmed
U2’s Adam Clayton and his wife Mariana Teixeira de Carvalho have split, ending their marriage of over a decade in an amicable split.
A representative for the couple shared the news with the Sunday World, confirming that they had parted ways.
The duo, who tied the knot back in September 2013, share a six year old daughter named Alba.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the couple said: “After more than 10 years of marriage, musician Adam Clayton and lawyer Mariana Teixeira de Carvalho have amicably divorced.”
It continued: “Both will continue to be fully involved in the care of their daughter and they request that the family’s privacy be respected.”, reports RSVP Live.
U2’s bassist Adam, 64, and Mariana, a lawyer, had married in a low-key ceremony at a Dublin registry office in September 2013, after four years together.
Their wedding festivities were marked by a lavish celebration with 150 guests, including Adam’s U2 bandmates Bono, The Edge, and Larry, at a historic French chateau near Cannes.
The couple welcomed their daughter Alba in July 2017, with the arrival of their little one announced through a personal advertisement in The Irish Times, which read: “Adam and Mariana Clayton are delighted to announce the birth of their beautiful baby girl Alba.”
Like his bandmates, Adam tends to keep his personal private, but made a rare revelation about Mariana at the MusiCares MAP Fund event in June 2017.

He gushed: “I was in Brazil and I met a lawyer who was smart and beautiful. We started dating. I got married in sobriety to Mariana.”
“I didn’t think that would happen. She’s never seen me drinking, but she does know me crazy. Thank you, Mariana, for the wonderful life we have together and for making every day more meaningful.”
The bassist has had high-profile relationships in the past, including an engagement to iconic supermodel Naomi Campbell, with whom he appeared on RTE’s The Late Late Show back in 1994.
He also popped the question to Suzie Smith in 2006.
Adam is also dad to a son who was born in 2010 from a previous relationship.
It comes after Adam wowed Gardeners’ World viewers with a tour of his ‘magical’ Dublin garden, which he’s been perfecting for over three decades.
The rock legend revealed the transformation of his outdoor haven, complete with a meandering river, over 4,000 trees, and tranquil islands that create a serene escape.
Reacting to the lush space, fans took to social media to applaud his efforts. One viewer shared: “Now I love Adam more. I want a holiday in his garden!”, while another wrote: “I wish BBC Two had a like button. Exceptional #gardenersworld tonight. Adam Clayton’s garden and story a revelation.”
