Sir Brian May was deeply emotional after learning that Aerosmith was retiring from touring because of Steven Tyler’s “heartbreaking” vocal injury.
The band Aerosmith has announced they will no longer be performing live due to frontman Steven Tyler’s ongoing recovery issues from a vocal cord injury and a fractured larynx sustained nearly a year ago. Brian May expressed his sorrow upon hearing the news, calling it “heartbreaking” to see Tyler’s “extraordinary” voice affected. Brian shared Aerosmith’s announcement on Instagram, noting that the band has been a significant part of his life and expressing sadness over Tyler’s vocal damage.
The 77-year-old rocker also praised Aerosmith for their “pure class” in delivering such an honest and dignified statement about their decision. He commented, “It’s also typical of the band’s pure class that they have made and shared this bold decision with such grace.”
He continued, “Aerosmith’s career is truly something to celebrate forever. Though all things must come to an end, the remarkable work of Aerosmith and the memories of one of the greatest bands to ever perform will endure.”
In their statement, Aerosmith acknowledged the difficulty of their decision to retire from touring, calling it “heartbreaking.” They explained, “We’ve always aimed to blow your mind with our performances. Steven’s voice is a unique instrument, and despite months of dedicated effort and top-notch medical care, a full recovery from his injury isn’t possible.”
The band concluded, “We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary decision— as a band of brothers— to step away from the touring stage.”
