In a recent interview with Elena Rosberg from Radiocast BG, Rob Halford discussed the meaning behind JUDAS PRIEST’s album title, “Invincible Shield.” He explained that since the band’s inception, JUDAS PRIEST has been a staunch defender of heavy metal, not just as a genre but as a broader cultural phenomenon. As the lyricist, Halford’s role is to craft titles and concepts that embody the spirit of their music and convey a powerful message. He shared that the title “Invincible Shield” came to him spontaneously during a creative moment at home. Combining “invincible” with “shield,” he felt it represented the band’s enduring role in heavy metal and also symbolized an inner strength everyone possesses.
Halford elaborated that everyone has their own “invincible shield,” a metaphor for the resilience and hope that help people overcome challenges. He sees the album title as not only a reflection of JUDAS PRIEST’s enduring legacy but also as an inspirational message for humanity.
When asked if it can be overwhelming to carry such a significant responsibility, Halford acknowledged it can be. He emphasized the importance of balancing the power of words, which can inspire or harm, and noted his efforts to infuse JUDAS PRIEST’s songs with positivity and energy. He mentioned that despite not being a political band, he felt compelled to address the complexities of social media in their song “Panic Attack,” which has resonated deeply with fans.
Halford concluded by emphasizing the responsibility he feels during live performances, aiming to give everything in each show. He also announced the second leg of the “Invincible Shield” tour with SABATON, which will see them visiting new North American cities starting September 13 and wrapping up in Texas in late October. The album “Invincible Shield” debuted at No. 2 on the U.K. charts, just behind Ariana Grande’s “Eternal Sunshine.”
