As summer temperatures climb, so does the intensity of NFL training camp battles for roster spots and starting positions. The Seattle Seahawks’ 2024 training camp has been a blend of excitement, fierce competition, and, regrettably, some early difficulties. While fans are eagerly anticipating the new season, several players who were expected to shine are facing significant challenges. This period of training camp has spotlighted four key Seahawks players who are struggling to find their rhythm, raising concerns about their roles in the upcoming season.

Mike Macdonald has taken over from Pete Carroll, bringing with him high expectations. Having earned acclaim during his successful two-year tenure as the defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens, Macdonald, at just 36, infuses the team with youthful energy. This is a shift from Carroll, who, despite being 72, was always brimming with enthusiasm. While Carroll’s time with the team was notable, it seems the franchise felt a change was necessary. Macdonald seems well-suited to lead this new phase.

If Mike Macdonald successfully leads the Seahawks back to the playoffs in his first season, much of the credit will likely be attributed to Geno Smith returning to his 2022 form. That year, Smith was a surprising standout, leading the league in completion percentage and amassing 4,282 yards and 30 touchdowns. His impressive performance earned him a three-year, $75 million contract from Seattle. However, his 2023 season was less impressive. While the Seahawks have given him another opportunity, Smith will need to make significant improvements to secure his position as the starter beyond 2025.
