David Gilmour of Pink Floyd has released a new solo single, “Dark and Velvet Nights,” which is part of his upcoming album, Luck and Strange. The album is scheduled for release on September 6th via Sony Music. The single is accompanied by a music video directed by Gavin Elder.

The song, co-written by Gilmour and Polly Samson, was inspired by a poem Samson wrote. Gilmour described the process as serendipitous, explaining that the music emerged spontaneously when he paired it with the poem. Samson later added a few verses, completing the track.

In a recent interview, David Gilmour described *Luck and Strange* as the “best album I’ve made” since Pink Floyd’s 1973 classic, *The Dark Side of the Moon*.
