Simon Jordan has told Brendan Rodgers he should LEAVE Celtic if he’s unhappy with how the board are conducting transfer business.

The Hoops boss sent a clear message to the Parkhead hierarchy following Sunday’s 3-0 win at St Mirren, declaring the fans deserved to see their club splash the cash and that hoarding it to build the pot is of no use if they want to compete in the Champions League. It’s not the first time this window, nor since his return to Glasgow far less during his first spell, that Rodgers has publicly made his feelings clear on the transfer strategy.

Since the weekend, Celtic have sold Matt O’Riley to Brighton for a Scottish record transfer fee of north of £25million, and as Record Sport exclusively revealed, are attempting to tempt Sheffield United to sell Auston trusty with £5m of that money. More arrivals are expected for this week before the window closes on Friday night.

But talkSPORT co-host Jordan has questioned what has been said privately between Rodgers and the board. He’s accused the Irishman of taking all the credit for the self-proclaimed “good place” the team is in and, if the board aren’t holding up their end of the bargain in terms of transfers, then he should walk away.

There is a balance between suggesting that more needs done and going off-piste because he thinks he’s a bit clever and start bringing up other aspects of how the fanbase during Covid decide to not ask for reimbursements for their season tickets,” said Jordan.

“Which is my doing, by the way. This is my doing and this is what I’ve done. The team is in a good place because this is what I’ve done and, by the way, now you need to do your bit.

“What has been discussed with you privately? You feel that the team is in an unassailable position because the team is winning, which of course is ALL down to you and nothing to do with anybody else. That you can say these things and it just pushes up against the line.

“The flip side of the argument is if he’s been told something very different and they’re not doing it, then what does he do? I’m always of the mindset that football managers need to be given the tools. If everybody around you is being strengthened and you’re not, then it’s not fair. But who is strengthening and improving in the SPFL?

“Do Celtic by improving a tad in the Champions League produce a better outcome? Probably not, because they are not good enough in European football terms.

“So I would prefer Brendan Rodgers gets on with the business he can control. Or has a conversation with his owners and says ‘I really don’t like what you’re doing so I am going to leave because I have got a bit of integrity about me. Rather than spend my time trying to flush you out in the media and doing precisely what suits me best, by painting myself as being the all-saving, all-consuming, all-working well Brendan Rodgers.'”
