Luton Town goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski is a target for Leicester City with a deal worth over £10m eyed, according to reporter Alan Nixon.
Unsurprisingly, a number of players have moved on following the Hatters’ relegation to the Championship and a number of players could move on in the final days of the month too. Rob Edwards will be keen to maintain his key men, but if some do move on, the hope will be that they can be replaced.
It’s not been a great start to the season either, with only one point taken from the first three games. Goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski missed the recent defeat to Preston North End after being sent off in calamitous fashion against Portsmouth.
Now though, it is claimed that the Belgian ‘keeper has Premier League admirers.
Writing on his Patreon, reporter Alan Nixon says that Leicester City are making a move to try and prise Kaminski away from Luton Town at this late stage in the summer window.
The Foxes are looking at a deal that could be worth in excess of £10m. It is a chance Kaminski would jump at, it is said, with the club not ruling out a sale.
Mark Travers of Bournemouth could be a replacement if Kaminski does move, Nixon adds.
An odd deal?
While it remains to be seen whether these rumours come to anything, it does seem like an odd deal for Leicester City to be pursuing this summer.
The Foxes have a solid young number one in the form of Mads Hermansen, who held down the starting spot in their Championship title-winning season. Daniel Iversen, Danny Ward and Jakub Stolarczyk are all on the books as other options in goal too.
Even if there was, it would be a surprise if they were to be signed as a striker. And with Kaminski turning 32 in October, a fee in excess of £10m does sound like a bit much.
Perhaps that’s what Luton Town are demanding if they’re to let go of their starting ‘keeper. It seems to be an add move for Leicester though, especially given that they’re not exactly blessed with financial freedom this summer.
Options in goal
With Kaminski suspended, Luton Town called upon long-serving veteran James Shea against Preston.
Tim Krul is still on the books but Jameson Horlick was on the bench for that game. Some would perhaps argue a new goalkeeper is needed even before Kaminski goes, but if he heads out the exit door, then a new number one would definitely be sought.
If he stays, Kaminski can be a solid option for Edwards in the Championship. He performed well at this level with Blackburn Rovers and now has Premier League experience to his name as well.
