Washington Commanders Officially Rename Stadium to “Northwest Stadium”.

The Washington Commanders have officially renamed their Landover, Maryland home stadium to “Northwest Stadium” following a major naming rights deal with Northwest Federal Credit Union. This marks a new chapter for the team and its supporters.

In a press release, Commanders managing owner Josh Harris expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “Northwest Federal Credit Union has been a vital part of this community for generations. We are proud to team up with an organization as dedicated to the DMV area as we are.” Harris also highlighted the team’s ambition to become a top franchise, looking forward to memorable moments at Northwest Stadium.

The multi-year deal includes extensive Northwest branding throughout the stadium, featuring a new logo on both exterior and interior signs. The credit union will also have its logo on Commanders’ jerseys for both off-season and in-season practices. Additionally, Northwest members will benefit from exclusive perks such as ticket and merchandise discounts, enhancing the fan experience.

This agreement not only revitalizes the stadium, which has faced criticism since its 1997 opening, but also aligns with the Commanders’ broader goals for the future.

Commanders Continue Pursuit of New Stadium

The Commanders are actively pursuing a new stadium, with plans aiming for a potential opening by 2030.

However, the current agreement with Northwest Federal Credit Union does not cover the potential new stadium.

Jeff Bentley, President & CEO of Northwest Federal Credit Union, shared his excitement about the partnership, saying, “Northwest is delighted to continue our successful collaboration with the Commanders. With nearly 170 years of combined history in the D.C. metro area, this expanded partnership aligns perfectly with our values to enhance the local community. We are honored to welcome everyone to ‘Northwest Stadium’ and showcase the inspiring initiatives this collaboration brings.

The landmark deal, facilitated with the help of Elevate, represents the first instance of a credit union securing naming rights for an NFL stadium.

While financial details were not revealed, a team spokesperson confirmed that the new deal exceeds the average annual value of the previous naming rights agreement.

The Commanders and Northwest Federal Credit Union will officially unveil their expanded partnership with a joint press conference at Northwest Stadium on September 15, ahead of the Commanders’ home opener against the New York Giants in Week 2 of the NFL season.
