Both are a perfect match in the realm of music, and it’s rumored that he owns 1,000 of the guitars that helped him rise to rock fame in the early Sixties. Richards was one of the original members of the six-man band fronted by Mick Jagger’s distinctive vocals. The group soared to fame with their notable hits such as “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” (July 1965), “Ruby Tuesday” (March 1967), and “Honky Tonk Women” (August 1969).

After nearly 20 years away from creating new material, The Rolling Stones made a highly anticipated return with their 24th studio album, *Hackney Diamonds*, released late last year. The album received worldwide praise. However, Farout magazine reported that despite having the option to insure his hands for millions, Keith Richards has developed a type of arthritis that significantly restricts his guitar-playing abilities.

Arthritis, a widespread condition affecting around 10 million people in the UK—including children and teenagers—causes pain and inflammation in the joints. For Keith Richards, one of the most renowned guitarists globally, this condition has necessitated a shift in his playing style and chord techniques.

Despite acknowledging that arthritis has impacted his playing, Richards shared with the BBC that his version of the condition is relatively mild and doesn’t cause him significant pain. He suggested that any slowing down in his playing is more due to age. Richards also found a silver lining, noting that when he encounters limitations, the guitar often reveals alternative techniques. He reflected, “Some finger will go one space different and a whole new door opens.” For him, this means continual learning and adaptation, as he put it, “You never finish school, man.”

While Jagger was carrying records and Richards was carrying a guitar, their conversation about music during their train journey sparked a connection. This chance encounter set them on a path that led to one of rock’s most legendary songwriting partnerships.
